Random blood glucose: A test to determine how much glucose (sugar) is in a blood sample after an overnight fast. The fasting blood glucose test is commonly used to detect diabetes mellitus. A blood sample is taken in a lab, physician’s office, or hospital. The test is done after the 2 hours of meal. The normal range for blood glucose is 90 to 140 mg/dl.

Why Get Tested:
- This test is done to diagnose diabetes mellitus.

Test Preparation Needed :
this test is done after 2 hour of any meal.
- This test can be done on Serum. The serum should be separated within 30 minutes of collection.
- The serum can be stored at 25° C for 8 hours and 72 hours at 4 °C.
- Oxalate blood can also be used. Preservative sodium fluoride may be added.
- The plasma can be stored at 25 °C for 24 hours (when there is preservative sodium fluoride).
- Adult = 80 to 140 mg/dL
- Children = 80 to 120 mg/dL
