Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are the most common complications women face during pregnancy. Bacteria can enter the woman’s urinary tract or urinary tract and may enter the bladder. The fetus exerts additional pressure on the bladder, causing the bacteria to become trapped, causing infection.

Signs and symptoms of a UTI include:

Burning or painful urination
Cloudy or blood-tinged urine
Pelvic or lower back pain
Frequent urination
Feeling that you have to urinate frequently
Fever
Nausea or vomiting

How will the UTI affect baby?

If the UTI goes untreated, it may lead to a kidney infection. Kidney infections may cause early labor and low birth weight. If your doctor treats a urinary tract infection early and properly, the UTI will not cause harm to your baby.

Treatment:

UTI can be safely treated with antibiotics during pregnancy. Urinary tract infections are most often treated with antibiotics. Doctors usually prescribe a 3-7 day course of antibiotics that is safe for you and your baby. Call your doctor if you have a fever, chills, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, contractions, or after taking medicine for three days, and you feel a burning sensation in your urine.
