A combination of acid fuchsin, orange G and light green. Nuclei appear purple-black, cytoplasm red. Collagen fibers and mucin are green, red blood cells yellow to orange, muscle red. Sometimes hematoxylin is used to reinforce blue staining of nuclei, and Verhoff stain may be added to stain elastic fibers black.
